The Odyssey Metal X 7 putter

Odyssey Metal X 7

How does it look behind the ball?

After you've got used to the claw shaped head, the Odyssey Metal X 7 becomes a thing of simplistic beauty.

Everything about the look behind the ball seems right. All the lines you can see (and there are a lot of them) are either parallel or perpendicular to the putter face and this gives you a great sense of confidence in the way you've positioned the putter.

The good news doesn't end there... what's amazing about this putter is just how square it seems to sit every time you address a ball. It seems almost impossible to put the putter on the ground closed or open, the large flat sole of the putter simply rights the aim unerringly to a square position. This boosts confidence, too.

on an Odyssey #7 putter...

The only slight negative I found was that at some angles, the sun reflected off the insert and did produce some glare, but in general the putter looks just right behind the ball.

How does the Odyssey Metal X 7 feel?

Odyssey Metal X 7 faceThere's no doubt that Odyssey knows how to produce world-beating insert putters, and this is no exception.

Although the insert is different from most of those on Odyssey's other ranges, and features tiny metallic grooves in the face, I did not feel and difference between this and a white hot putter, for instance.

How does it roll the ball?

The other major advantage of the Odyssey #7 shape aligning its face so squarely is that this also gives you the very best chance of having perfect impact conditions. The result is that the roll from the putter is consistently fantastic!

Verdict

An awesome putter which is unique in its ability to right itself and aim perfectly square every time.

That having been said, I didn't see or feel much difference between the Odyssey Metal X 7 and the White Hot XG version which you can find new or used at lower prices.
